Maintenance Technician

POSITION SUMMARY: Works to upkeep and repair equipment and assets in the brewery. Assists in a variety of aspects throughout the business, as needed. Communicates effectively between the incoming and outgoing Maintenance Technicians, Beer Production staff and Packaging Leads. Packaging Line Operator

Fulton is a Minneapolis brewery founded in 2009. We own and operate a 20 bbl brewery and taproom in downtown Minneapolis next to Target Field, and a 50,000 square foot production brewery in Northeast Minneapolis. POSITION SUMMARY:

Fulton’s Packaging Line Operator is a critical member of Fulton’s brewing operations.  The successful packing line operator will follow the detailed job description below and work well with their fellow packing line operators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be a contributing member to Fulton Brewing Company’s Packaging Team.

Adheres to and advances Fulton’s core values and safety culture.

Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the department and company.

Packaging Operations

Ensure all packaging equipment is set up, maintained, and operational to allow for efficient and safe packaging of quality product.

Operate bottling and kegging line, and perform changeovers on equipment.

Run CIPs to start up and shut down the lines.

Complete production and batch reporting as required.

Learn and perform QC procedures throughout a packaging run

Perform basic cellar operations, e.g. carbonating beer.

Comply with all Fulton Brewing Company policies.

Aid in training as necessary.

Communicate effectively and work well with other departments.

Work towards achieving departmental goals around efficiencies and yields.

Attending Fulton Brewing Company events, e.g. tastings, releases, and beer festivals.

Maintain a clean and orderly work area, returning tools, equipment, and supplies to the appropriate storage areas after each assignment.

 

Packaging or manufacturing experience; formal packaging education, training, certifications, or accreditation are a plus.

Must have the ability and aptitude to learn and perform basic electrical, mechanical, and programming troubleshooting. A working knowledge of brewing and process equipment including HMI’s and PLC equipment is a plus.

Must have the ability and aptitude to learn and perform skills applicable to general maintenance functions, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, boiler maintenance.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:

Forklift trucks, scissor lift and articulated boom lift.

Cleaning agents and other hazardous chemicals.

Desktop computer including an understanding of Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and OrchestratedBeer (SAP).

IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.

Able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check.

Obtain and maintain a forklift driver certificate.

Technical Certificate in packaging operations or four years’ equivalent work experience preferred.

Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Strong interpersonal skills and a love for meeting and interacting with people.

Thorough attention to detail and desire to take initiative.

Able to maneuver packages of any weight above 180 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance.

Able to move palletized goods exceeding 500-pounds, using appropriate techniques and tools.

Able to work in a factory/production environment which may be loud, slick, humid, cold, and hot.

Able to work in indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise and occasionally slippery floors

Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience at a production brewery. Formal brewing education, training, certifications, or accreditation are a plus.
  • A working knowledge of brewing/process equipment including: malt milling equipment, brewhouse equipment, and cellar equipment.
  • Must have the ability and aptitude to learn and perform basic electrical, mechanical, and programming troubleshooting.
  • Skills applicable to general maintenance functions, including: mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, boiler maintenance are a plus.
  • The ability to operate a fork lift and scissor lift, current training certification a plus.
  • The ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and blue prints.
  • The ability to work flexible hours.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision in a collaborative and dynamic environment, while efficiently prioritizing tasks.

Primary Responsibilities

Brewing

  • Work with other Fulton brewers as a team to produce beer and other product lines at Fulton’s Minneapolis breweries
  • Execution of all brewing-related tasks, including: operation of a 20 barrel manual brewhouse and 80 barrel semi-automated brewhouse
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for production processes

Cellaring & Filtration

  • Develop, maintain and follow cellaring process and procedures to ensure the quality of Fulton’s products. 
  • Learn filtration processes and become proficient with both centrifuge and DE filtration methods.

 

Recipe Development

  • Work with brewer team on recipe development, alternative cellaring techniques and enhancements to production and efficiency.
  • Recipe development opportunities may come both at Fulton’s NE brewing facility and its downtown brewery and taproom. 

Other

  • Record production and batch/lot data using log sheet and Orchestrated Beer
  • Assist Plant Manager with troubleshooting and occasional maintenance tasks
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvement

Brewery Working Environment

The demands of the Shift Brewer position are very physical in nature.  The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job you will be working over, under, and around machinery in tight and cramped spaces.  You will need to be able to work in awkward positions for extended periods of time and/or standing, kneeling, and crouching for long periods of time.  You must be comfortable working at heights while standing on a ladder or in a basket.  This work environment involves indoor and outdoor activities in various temperatures and weather conditions.  The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employees are exposed to high levels of noise and other hazards requiring the use of personal protective equipment.
