Kendama in the Taproom

A chance to compete or learn something new!

🎉 Welcome to the Winter Fulton Kendama Tournament! 🎉

Are you ready to “spike” your holiday spirit? Whether you’ve never heard of a kendama before, you’ve never landed your first trick or you're ready to compete — this event is for you! We’re hosting a laid-back, all-ages kendama tournament where everyone’s welcome to learn, practice, compete or just hang out and have fun.

A Kendama is a classic skill toy from Japan. A wooden handle (“ken”) with cups and a spike, connected by a string to a ball (“tama”). The goal: toss the ball, catch it on a cup or spike it — as simple or as tricky as you like.

The Tournament :

  • Beginner-friendly vibes. No prior experience needed. Players will walk you through the basics: how to hold the ken, how to catch the tama, maybe even land your first “spike.”
  • Learn + laugh + level up. You might come for the tournament but stay for the sense of flow, focus, and that satisfying “clack” when you land a trick.
  • Meet new friends. Kendama isn’t just a toy — it’s a community. Swap tips, cheer each other on, and maybe find a new hobby (or a friendly rivalry).
  • Fun for all ages. Kids, teens, adults — anyone curious to try something new, playful, and surprisingly deep. As your introduction to Kendama says: it works “for young and old alike.”
  • “Speed Ladder” & friendly match-ups — races through a set of tricks, or 1-on-1 matchups for more seasoned (or brave) players. But again — beginners definitely welcome to jump in.
  • Open hang + learn zone. Not feeling competitive? Totally fine. There’ll be space to practice, get tips, and just try things out at your own pace.
  • Good vibes, great people. We want this to be low-pressure and welcoming — because Kendama is all about fun, focus, and community.
  • 🎁 We’ll be selling brand-new kendamas at the event — they make excellent gifts for kids and adults. 🎄 A perfect stocking stuffer for anyone who likes a little challenge, creativity, or something different than the usual toys.
